Losing weight can be hard, however keeping it off is is even tougher. There are several weight loss programs that educate you on how to lose the weight, but here are five ways to keep it off for good. Tip #1: Do not crash diet to lose weight.
Crash diets are not fast weight loss alternatives. All you lose is water weight and carbohydrates, however you are left feeling drained. Your metabolism slows down and your body can't burn the calories as efficiently as it could. Instead, you could even gain more weight once you start eating normally again because your body is storing as much food and energy it can in case you use a fad diet again.
Tip #2: Avoid anything that says "diet" or that it's low fat.
You don't have to stop eating everything you love to eat. If you don't occasionally satisfy your cravings you'll be much more likely to binge. You're better off indulging in a little occasionally then avoiding the food all together.
Tip #3: Be careful what you drink.
Drink a lot of water while dieting. It has no calories, no sugar, and no artificial ingredients. Soda pop - even diet soda - fruit drinks, and whole milk must all be reduced removed from your diet and eliminate a lot of calories. Avoid whole milk and stick with either skim or 1%.
Tip #4: Get plenty of exercise.
30-45 minutes of aerobic activities done at least three times per week will help you lose weight. Even if you're physically limited, do something instead of sitting still. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk instead of driving when you can. You get the idea.
Tip #5. No Buffets.
I know that this is a tough one. Facts are facts and buffets are deadly for anyone trying to lose or maintain. You may think you've got it "under control", but even if you start off with a salad and try to moderate your portions you'll still end up overeating 95% of the time.
Someone once asked a famous Olympian from the USA, who'd had serious weight problems for most of his life, how he managed to keep it off. His response was something to the effect of "when I have a craving for chocolate cake I have to ask myself what's more important, chocolate cake or to go to the Olympics?" He came to the realization that the Olympics were more valuable to him than the immediate gratification.
This is something you'll have to to decide. Is the body you want more important than the food? Is your self esteem, your health, your kids, your spouse, your job, etc? You must find your reason "Why" you want to lose weight. Once you've come to that conclusion then your battle is half over. Stop! - Are You Serious About Losing Weight?
