If you’ve gained a few pounds, your mind might immediately think it’s because you’re eating too much. The food you take in is what makes you fat, right? So the solution to the problem is just to eat less. Does reducing your portion size mean reducing your waist line? Most health magazines and diet plans stress eating less, limiting portion size, but never changing what you are eating. Though eating less will help to reduce your weight, just eating less will not solve all of your problems.

Before food was immediately ready and always available, humans faced periods of starvation. The body had to find ways to cope with this or perish. So when you try to limit your intake and dramatically cut down on your portions, your body will just burn less energy as a way of compensating for the lack of food. The most effectively and safe way to lose weight is to eat smartly, not simply starve your body. Beginning a smart, healthy food diet is always hard at the beginning, but once you’ve gotten through the hardest part you will actually not have cravings for the sweet stuff. Your cravings now (for sweet and salty food) is your body’s way of asking for important vitamins that you are not getting in your diet already; eating healthy gives your body all the vitamins it needs and will curb these cravings.

You excess weight will not go away overnight; it was created in a day! Make sure to drink lots of water. Drinking the recommended amount for your weight will greatly suppress your hunger, increase your body’s efficiency, and allow you to cut your calorie intake. When you feel your body craving something, try drinking a large glass of water to suppress it. Water is so important to your body, and it will be a key to success for weight loss.

Exercise along with eating healthy is vitally important. Burning more calories than you take in will almost certainly cause you to lose weight. Therefore exercise is needed. Start a routine that you enjoy and work up to harder levels. Don’t jump right in; take it slow at first. Walk around your neighborhood or around a park. Join a local gym or find some friends to play sports with. Just get active and burn calories! Any motion is good motion, and simple exercises will still get your heart pumping and motivate you to go further. This will help you feel better in no time, and combined with your new healthy eating habits, the weight should start coming off gradually and steadily.
